The JD Sheth Foundation partnered with Imani Milele Children to purchase two water harvesting tanks for their Troas Primary School in Jinja. Imani Milele Children is a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in Uganda. This organization operates eight educational centers throughout Uganda, serving over 4,000 children. The water harvesting tanks collect rainwater and provide the school with additional water for cooking, cleaning, and proper hygiene, as well as helping reduce soil erosion around the buildings.
The tanks are made of heavy duty plastic and hold 10,000 liters (2,642 gallons) of water each. They are set on brick platforms, plumbed, and surrounded by bricks and plaster to protect them from any damage. The two tanks our foundation provided collect rainwater from onsite teacher housing. The tanks are then plumbed to faucets to make obtaining the water easy. Each tank has a small, locking trap door in the brick enclosure to allow access for tank cleaning and upkeep.
Two board members, Jaimie Sheth and Kelly Sanders, visited the school in March to see the tanks being installed. It was an amazing experience and we hope to be able to partner with Imani Milele Children for future projects. Thank you to Julie Anthony, who submitted the project, for all of her hard work fundraising for projects at the Troas Primary School. Special thanks to Pastor Moses, the founder of Imani Milele Children, and his amazing team for the extremely warm welcome and all the hard work they do for children in Uganda. The JD Sheth Foundation would also like to thank the Girl Scouts Troop of SW Indiana #183 for their work to raise money for a project that helped them earn their water conservation badge.
